Help! [26 Nov 2008|01:42pm]

My band is in the second round of a contest that could potentially win us a cool record deal; if we can stay in the top 3 by the end of Dec. 5th, we fly to New York city to compete against the other top bands! If you could please take a moment of time to help us out by voting at the website below, I would greatly appreciate it!:

My band Silver Needle is a finalist in a Sirius Radio Contest on Little Steven's Underground Garage Channel -

Please lend your support & vote for us to go to the finals in NYC!

(apologies if this feels a bit spammy, but we really feel we have a chance to win this one!)
(they don't spam, but if you don't want to use your own e-mail you can use a website such as mailinator.com)

Thank you!

p.s.: If you want to hear the music you are voting for, stream it here:
or (if you are an imeem.com user) here:

The powers that be at "Indie" 103.1 would like you to believe that they are an independent alternative to local gargantua alt station KROQ in Los Angeles.

Truth of the matter is that "Indie" is really a CLEAR CHANNEL puppet station, run from the shadows by a couple of tools from pussystation KIISFM.

We were willing to play the game for a while, ignoring their obvious corporate rock ties because- on the surface at least- there was fun to be had in hearing great jocks like steve jones, joe sib, joe escalante, rob zombie, and henry rollins.

who could resist. they were taking a chance and shaking up the status quo, and it was fun- even if the station bosses were flat out LYING and HIDING who was REALLY running the show.

A touch over a year ago they pulled the brilliant coup- and ran ex vocalist of Boston's Mighty Mighty Bosstones Dicky Barrett in the suicide slot-7AM to 10AM against the most popular LA station's lineups.

Not only did Dicky rise to the occassion, but he knocked us dead. He played the crowd, the adolesents, madness. He had tattoo artists come in and tatto on tuesdays. free form fun- musically and verbally- with some of the best dialogue and banter between DJ and support staff that I have EVER heard on radio ANYWHERE in this country.

It was the first daytime radio show I remember listening to with any enthusiasm and regularity since....geez....... the insane darryl wayne was running kroq outta a pasadena hotel bathroom in the 1970's.

The Mighty Morning Show rocked.

Now you can bet that CLEAR CHANNEL- I mean "Indie" will have some pre-made lameass excuse for pulling the show- and it will revolve around sponsors, and listener numbers being low- and any other bullshit they can come up with to put the blame on the show- but the bottom line is this:

The Mighty Morning Show was free form enough to exercsise the FIRST AMMENDMENT in a live, open forum. They said the kinds of things that right wing chicken wing doesn't want you to hear.

take a look at the cities that clear channel affiliates run out of.

and READ

"Indie" radio: joke.

The more I read, the happier I am that the MMS is off their station. The sad thing is that alot of us had a lot of hope that they were different- that they would run a show as controversial and cutting edge as the Mighty Morning Show.

Dicky, Chuck, Liz. We loved the show.

Clear Channel: KISS OUR ASSES.

send your love to the puppet below. you'll go to heaven.

Tomorrow-- Day of the Dead celebration in the Santa Ana Artists Village [04 Nov 2005|11:37am]

3rd Annual Dia de los Muertos Event to be celebrated in Artist Village
Santa Ana, CA., --

El Centro Cultural de México will host Dia de los Muertos for the third year in a row on Saturday, November 5, 2005 from 5pm – 10pm. This free, community event will be celebrated at the Artist Village Promenade located on 2nd St. between Broadway and Main St. in Santa Ana’s Downtown District.
This year, Dia de los Muertos will have over 20 altars on display constructed by community members from Santa Ana and the greater Orange County. These altars are dedicated to deceased loved ones or bring awareness to a social issue. Altar space is still available and reservations are being accepted via email through Friday, October 28th.

Don’t Miss Out on Celebrating Both Dia de los Muertos and the Santa Ana Community Spirit!

Dia de los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) is an ancient tradition that dates back to prehispanic Mexico. Today, the tradition has been much transformed but its objective to remember and honor the dead and celebrate the continuity of life remains the same.
El Centro Cultural de México is an non-profit, alternative space in Santa Ana where the community can find cultural, educational, and artistic activities that strengthen their identities, develop their talents, and develop a sense of leadership in the community.

from the LA Times, 25 February:

Fans of Indie 103.1 will have to stay tuned to learn the fate of the station. A spokeswoman for Entravision Communications Corp., the Santa Monica-based owner of the station, said Thursday that the company is "evaluating its options" for the station and will likely continue to do so through April 1.
That date is circled on the calendat because it will bring to an end Entravision's business partnership with Clear Channel, the radio titan that has been selling ads for Indie 103.1 since the channel launched 14 months ago. The station simulcasts from Newport Beach and Santa Monica under the tandem call letters KDLD-FM and KDLE-FM.
A revision of the federal regulations is forcing the divorce; Clear Channel owns eight stations in the Los Angeles market and the changed policy will count the Indie arrangement as a ninth holding, which exceeds the market cap set by law.
Radio industry insiders are speculating that the loss of the partner may prompt Entravision, a primarily Spanish-language media company, to shed the adventurous rock format.

nooooooooooooooo please nooooooooooooo

[27 Dec 2004|03:27pm]

Hey there. I love Indie 103.1 and was so happy (and relieved) when I first found it. :)

Anyways, I just wondered if Indie has been kind of.. fuzzy.. for anyone else lately? When my radio at home started to get static-y, I just figured that something was up with the radio itself. But 103.1 was fuzzy in the car, too, and my friend who also listens to Indie has been experiencing the same thing at her home and in her car as well. We're in northern OC so it's not like we're really far from the station.. has anyone else noticed this lately or know what's up?
